SKAA Karts

Driver Profile
Jamie started racing in 1985 at the age
of 11 with his first race on a bitumen track in SA. With the help of a very supportive father and brother (his push starter) his racing career began with a very nervous (butterflies in the stomach before each race) young man who managed to finish most of his races, albeit often 2 laps behind everyone else. In his own defense Jamie claims that in those days the karts were very different to today as they had no side pods, nose cones, wings or nasau panels meaning they were very much 'open' frames. The safety mechanisms that we take for granted so much today were not there in those days and your chances of getting injured (or even killed) were much higher.
A couple of encounters with other karts left him without injury but often resulted in his father having to delve deeply once again into his pockets to resurrect the old kart to its former glory. As time went on Jamie managed to secure some better placing's finishing up towards the middle of the pack. Having more confidence now (but still the butterflies in the stomach before each race) his racing ceased briefly to allow for relocation of the family interstate.
Jamie has raced on a number of tracks throughout the years including Pines Raceway and Barrossa Valley in S.A. to Canberra A.C.T. and Darwin N.T.

Switch from bitumen to speedway
Jamie was always traditionally a bitumen racer however in 2009 he decided a change was in order. Being a 'larger bloke' there was not a lot of competition available in his weight class so he decided rather than continuing to run at a disadvantage he would consider converting over to speedway. As a very keen
speedway spectator, he always wondered just what it would be like so with nothing to lose he made the switch. After a quick enquiry all that was needed was to join the speedway club, get the necessary licence, fit
some bigger wheels, change gear ratios, buy some tear-offs and it was
off to the speedway track.
Jamie is now a constant front runner at the Northline Speedway track in Darwin NT, often placing amongst the first four competitors. Jamie's family and friends are keen supporters who attend race meetings to offer their support.
Jamie can be followed on race nights through live broadcasts
